Protect Your Hydrophone
Storage Tips
The two main causes of hydrophone failure are impact and corrosion. These can lead to damage to the sensor as well as conductivity issues with the connectors.
After using your hydrophone in the sea or elsewhere, rinse it with clean fresh water, then allow the moisture to evaporate in a well-ventilated area. This reduces the corrosive effects of salt on electrical contacts.
Place the foam block over the hydrophone when not in use to protect it.
The EVA case offers some breathability while closed, but it is best to leave it open until the case, hydrophone, and protective foam are completely dry.
Avoid storing the hydrophone in the same case as any connected electrical device.
Avoid immersing the XLR output connector.
If the connector needs cleaning, wipe it with a slightly damp cloth or an alcohol wipe.
Careful coiling will greatly improve future deployment and retrieval!
